Naomi Aylwin successfully prosecutes a case against multiple defendants in a high-value burglary conspiracy
The burglary itself concerned the theft of rare coins, valued at over half a million pounds. The police investigation centred around phone work and digital evidence that demonstrated that these defendants were critical to the planning and eventual execution of the burglary. Operation Stout culminated in a 2-week trial in February 2025. The trial involved careful examination of this digital evidence, the case relying largely on cell site material and evidence of the conspirators’ communications. The cell site evidence relied on related to the defendants’ phones, the so-called ‘conspiracy line’, the tracker that was proven to have been fitted to the victim’s car in the lead-up to the burglary, and e-sim data for a stolen vehicle that became the burglars’ getaway car. Both defendants had a history of involvement in targeted, high-value burglaries, material which was ruled admissible and relied on at trial. One defendant was convicted by his plea two days prior to the trial. The other was convicted unanimously by the jury following the trial at Gloucester Crown Court. The defendants were sentenced to 6 years 4 months’ and 7½ years’ imprisonment respectively.
The case was investigated by Northamptonshire Police and prosecuted by CPS East Midlands.
