Rhianna Fricker

Rhianna has built her practice defending in a range of offences in the Crown and Magistrates’ Court including sexual offences, drugs and violence.

Example cases:

R v F – Successful defence of a man charged with causing grievous bodily harm to their partner. The injury sustained was a fractured cheekbone.

R v V – Persuaded the court to make an absolute discharge in relation to a woman with significant mental health issues, including PTSD, bi-polar disorder and borderline personality disorder, who was charged with several counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

R v B – Successfully persuaded the court to grant conditional bail in a case involving a teenager charged with murder who was previously detained in youth detention accommodation.

R v C – Represented a defendant alleged to have assaulted and made threats to kill his long-term partner. Successful submission of no case to answer relating to both charges.

R v H – Successfully persuaded the court to make a lengthy community order in a case of a particularly vulnerable drugs user. The defendant was charged with multiple counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs on separate occasions. The court accepted that there was exceptional personal mitigation which justified a sentence which focused on the rehabilitation of the defendant.

Rhianna began accepting Family Law instructions in 2023, utilising the skills developed in her years of Criminal Law.

Focusing on Public Law matters, Rhianna has a track record in assisting the most vulnerable clients, working sensitively with those struggling with alcohol, drugs and mental health issues in criminal proceedings, and deploying this approach with Family Clients. Counsel also has experience assisting those accused of, or alleging domestic abuse.

Counsel is renowned for combining a sensitive approach to client care, with a focused, determined advocacy. Her experience cross examining experts and professionals further enhances her credentials when assisting in more serious matters involving medical or police evidence.

Prior to joining Queen Square, Counsel worked in-house at a firm of Solicitors, ensuring she has an appreciation of the need for collaborative working with those instructing and providing timely updates of any developments.
