Sarah joins Queen Square Chambers following her recent call to the Bar. Prior to this Sarah has worked in Crown Courts on the Western Circuit for the past 13 years as a Solicitor-Advocate specialising in criminal defence. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2001.

Having a litigation background, Sarah is able to engage well with lay-clients and has a good understanding of the pressures faced by criminal solicitors.

Sarah is happy to be contacted early in proceedings for advice. She had many years in practice advising in the police station and in applications for warrants of further detention in serious cases and is aware of the importance of the early involvement of trial Counsel to ensure the best representation throughout the life of a case.

 

In relation to her Crown Court practice Sarah has the following experience:
• Several junior briefs in murder cases both in Bristol and Gloucester. Of note, she was the instructed junior for the lead youth defendant in a murder involving 8 defendants.

• Instructed in several cases where defendants have been charged as part of conspiracies relating the supply of Class A drugs, as part of organised crime activity. Secured the acquittal of a taxi-driver accused of being a courier in the delivery of several kilograms of cocaine in a supply line between London and Gloucestershire.

• Frequently instructed to defend cases of serious sexual offences. Notably, a defendant charged with 19 counts in a case of familial sexual abuse involving 3 generations.

• Sarah has a particular interest in cases involving defendants who suffer with mental health difficulties. She has built up a good working relationship with providers of mental health services locally and is happy to advise solicitors in relation to the instruction of experts in such cases.

Interests:

Outside of work Sarah enjoys cycling, swimming and experimenting on her newly acquired allotment.
