Ably supported by our Senior Criminal Clerk Colleen Inker, Clerks Ken Duthie and Chelsea Zeiner and Assistant Clerk Maisie Baldry, the whole team understands the importance of delivering an efficient, quality service, from the initial enquiry call, through to the completion of the case.

We accept privately and public-funded instructions and welcome you to contact the clerks for more information about the team, to retain Counsel or discuss fees, by e-mailing crime@qsc.law or calling 0117 9211966.

Further information in relation to fees and timescales can be found here.

The team has particular expertise in the following areas:

Serious Fraud

Our caseload has included London-based auction house fraud; foreign exchange investment fraud; a multi-million-pound pyramid promotional scheme; high-quantum Leeds-based fraud on NHS; defending lead defendant in 87-handed ‘cash-for-crash’ conspiracy; fraud against the Ministry of Defence; PAYE and National Insurance fraud; multi million pound mortgage fraud; probate fraud – working for both prosecution and defence.

Road Traffic Matters

Our team is much sought after to defend people accused of causing death by dangerous or careless driving, and we are used to dealing with a wide range of accident reconstruction experts. We are ‘panel approved’ to work with insurance-backed claimants via solicitors who litigate nationally, as well as receiving direct private instructions and legal aid backed work. When instructed at an early stage we are able to identify and liaise with experts, allowing us to provide a bespoke service, for the maximum effect.

Organised Crime

We have a great deal of experience defending large-scale conspiracies to supply and/or import, as well as ‘drugs factory’ cases involving allegations of conspiracy to manufacture Class A drugs.

Homicide

Recent work includes defending in a case in which, exceptionally, a plea of manslaughter after loss of control was accepted to a charge of murder, and defending a co-defendant indicted with murder on a joint enterprise basis in one of the first cases to be tried post-Jogee.

Serious Sexual Offending

Our work extends not only to multi-complainant historic allegations but also to cases of conspiracy to exploit children such as Operation Brooke and Operation Vanquis, a National Crime Agency prosecution.

Court Martial Work

The team includes barristers with experience of serving in HM Forces and a good knowledge of how the Army functions. We have recently represented members of the armed services charged with serious sexual offences both in Germany and the UK and given advice on an appeal involving historic sexual offences on sovereign territory overseas.

Asset Recovery and Confiscation

A number of our team have a particular interest in this complex and fast-moving area.

Appellate Work

Members of our team are often asked to provide a second opinion where trial counsel has advised against appeal, and have done so working directly for members of the public (public access). We are also available to act in Criminal Cases Review Commission work.

  • "Queen Square Chambers’ ‘strong employment team’ has ‘skilled, accessible and likeable barristers’ who appear at tribunals across the country, and attract instructions nationally."
  • "Care cases are a notable strong suit, including matters involving non-accidental injuries, factitious illnesses, incest and sexual abuse."
  • "Queen Square Chambers has a strong following nationally among solicitors’ firms and insurance companies, and is regularly instructed in industrial disease, workplace accident, occupiers’ liability and road traffic cases. Clinical negligence is another area of strength."
