Sophie Sheerin
Sophie has developed an enviable practice in her time at Queen Square Chambers, accepting instructions in the Employment Law, Civil, Personal Injury and Criminal/ Criminal Regulatory Law. Working across multiple areas ensures Counsel has a breadth of skills to call upon. Her experience in the Crown Court ensuring her oral advocacy is often a cut above her opponents in the Civil Courts and similarly her work in Employment/ Civil law enable her to adeptly handle Regulatory matters, often representing more corporate clients.
Counsel has represented Claimants and Respondents in a variety of employment matters across a range of industries. Her recent work has included acting and advising on claims for unfair dismissal, harassment and discrimination on the basis of philosophical belief. Sophie has taken matters through from initial advice to final hearing, working with Solicitor and supporting the Client throughout.
Counsel accepts instructions in suitable Personal Injury matters, both for written advice and court hearings where she often acts in Small Claims and Fast Track trials.
Sophie is a grade 1 prosecutor and accepts both prosecution and defence briefs. She has been instructed in criminal cases involving harassment, stalking, malicious communications, witness intimidation and indecent images.
Sophie also has a background in data protection and has experience advising on matters such as compliance with data subject rights and responding to data breaches.
Before joining chambers, Sophie studied part-time for the Bar whilst working as a paralegal at Carter-Ruck. There, she developed a particular interest in privacy and freedom of expression, including where those issues arise in an employment or criminal context.
Outside work, Sophie is a lover of flora and fauna. She is a keen gardener and can be found practising yoga, skiing or roaming rural Somerset.
