Charles Row KC
Barrister, Head of Chambers
Having taken Silk in 2022 Charles’ reputation for meticulous and forensic case preparation persists; his hard work and personal investment into every case he handles produces consistent results. He has legal, tactical and emotional intelligence which he can deploy with disarming effect.
He is an ‘inclusive’ leader and encourages participation from all team members. Regardless of whether he is prosecuting or defending, the objective is always to achieve the best outcome for all concerned, be they defendants, complainants or witnesses.
Since taking silk, he has been instructed to prosecute and defend some of the most serious and sensitive matters on Circuit and beyond, including ‘baby shaking’, child homicide, multi handed murders, infanticide and gross negligence manslaughter.
His cases almost always involve detailed expert evidence of a medical (often psychiatric) and forensic nature. His ability to absorb large amounts of material quickly and to present complex matters in a clear, engaging and persuasive style has contributed to his significant success to date and to repeat instructions.
He has successfully defended alleged historic and more recent sexual abuse cases of great familial impact and is often privately instructed in such matters. His style lends itself to cases of a sensitive and delicate nature, often involving very young, very old and otherwise very vulnerable individuals.
His proven skill set makes him a natural choice for lay clients who are themselves, professionals, individuals of high net worth and or with a public profile and reputation to protect.
Charles also accepts instructions in regulatory matters and in his career has prosecuted and defended both companies and individuals in relation to matters involving food safety, tree felling, archaeological damage, collision regulations and more.
Charles’ thorough approach and calm nature inspires confidence and enables every witness to present their evidence in the best possible light, whilst those he cross examines can find themselves drawn in but ultimately wrong footed and exposed.
