R v S – Secured a unanimous acquittal by jury for a client charged with intentional strangulation. The case involved individuals of good character set in a domestic context.
R v B – Achieved a non-conviction restraining order for a client charged with controlling or coercive behaviour.
Office of the Traffic Commissioner v W – Represented a professional driver at a Driver Conduct Hearing for a maintenance related issue involving a passenger carrying vehicle. Owing to the driver’s remorse and hitherto exemplary driving record, Jack secured him a two-week suspension.
R v G – Represented a man of good character charged with causing serious injury by careless driving, where the evidence against him was agreed but unsafe to leave to a jury, Jack successfully argued for dismissal.
R v – Represented a youth charged with multiple counts of sexual assault. The case involved considered and careful witness handling.
R v P- Secured a swift conviction for a man charged with GBH, the trial issue being defence of another.
R v S – Represented a man charged with arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. The case concerned over £30k worth of damage to a family home and the defendant being under the influence of alcohol. Following strong mitigation and a helpful expert report, Jack secured the shortest possible term of imprisonment.
R v M – Secured a suspended sentence for a man originally charged with s.18 GBH. Which owing to representations made by Jack, was reduced to ABH.
R v. H – Successfully persuaded the Crown to offer no evidence for an alleged motoring offence after a discussion at court with the prosecutor where reference was made to the defendant’s diligence and commitment pursuing the truth. The case concerned an alleged motoring offence involving a defendant of good character and a clean driving licence.
R v. W – Prosecuted a three day s.28 trial involving two child witnesses for the Crown, the case concerned issues around identification.
R. v W – Prosecuted a Gloucester book-keeper who defrauded several companies totalling almost £150,000, resulting in a sentence of immediate imprisonment being passed. Read news story here.
R. v M – Successfully defended a man charged with assault in a domestic setting.
R. v W – Successfully opposed an application by the Crown to adduce hearsay evidence, resulting in no evidence being offered and the case dismissed for a man of good character.
R. v J – Persuaded the court to suspend a sentence of imprisonment for a man charged with dangerous driving, drug driving and driving without a valid licence or insurance. The driving being described by a police officer as some of the worst ever seen. The man was of previous good character and showed significant remorse and an awareness of his actions.
R. v A – Successfully defended a youth charged with possession of an offensive weapon, the court could not be sure he had knowledge of the item.
R. v T – Persuaded the court to make a lengthy community order for a man charged with possessing Indecent Images of Children. The court accepted that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation and strong personal mitigation.
