Michael has excelled since being made tenant at Queen Square Chambers and he successfully maintains a practice that encompasses a range of complementary areas of law. Counsel has a particular interest in civil litigation and especially matters arising out of contract, land or property disputes. Michael’s thorough approach to preparation and understanding of the law has also seen him sought after in Employment litigation matters.

Michael is a detailed lawyer, regularly instructed to advise on cases involving technical legal points and complicated factual scenarios. Counsel’s knowledge of the law is complemented by a calm and collected style of advocacy, honed by his experience in both the Crown and Magistrates Court. These factors combined ensure that Michael is able to find the best way forward for his clients, be that early on at the advisory stage or in the final stages of litigation.

 

 Civil

Counsel has experience of a variety of contract claims and welcomes instructions in this area. Recent instructions include advising on consumer and commercial contracts as well as representing parties in a variety of different hearings, be that those on liability, quantum or determining applications.

Michael has a real interest in Property law and his practice focuses on both residential and commercial landlord and tenant matters as well as boundary and easement disputes. Despite his year of call, Counsel is regularly instructed in complicated and high value claims. In addition to this experience, Michael enjoys all aspects of Property law and is keen to expand his practice in this field.

 

Employment

Michael has swiftly developed a busy Employment practice with those instructing benefiting from Counsel’s evident legal acumen. As well as maintaining a burgeoning advisory practice, Michael regularly appears on behalf of both claimants and respondents across the country in a range of employment law matters. He has particular experience in dismissal, discrimination and breach of contract claims where he brings a calm and pragmatic approach to proceedings.

 

Crime

Part of Michael’s common law pupillage consisted of undertaking work in all kinds of criminal law matters. Michael regularly appears in the Crown Court and Magistrates Court, both defending and prosecuting. Michael accepts instructions in all areas of Criminal law. Notable recent inactions include:

  • Prosecuting a trial for causing serious injury by careless driving which included numerous lay witnesses as well as expert witness evidence;
  • Defending an allegation of sexual activity with a child;
  • Defending an allegation of sexual assault;
  • Numerous appeals from the Magistrates Court to the Crown Court, both as appellant and respondent.

 

General

Prior to pupillage, Counsel developed a number of skills to help him succeed in his legal career. As part of his extensive legal voluntary work, Michael conducted conferences with members of the public, researched niche areas of law and drafted written advice on a broad range of legal matters.

Counsel has also seen numerous successes in mooting, be that at university, national or international level, grasping this opportunity to develop and hone his advocacy skills.

Michael is fluent in Polish and has worked as an amateur translator in a number of legal, diplomatic and commercial settings.

 

Interests:
Michael is a keen sailor, having sailed thousands of miles around the coasts of the English Channel. He also enjoys all other forms of outdoor activities. Michael spent five years as a leader in Scouting where he supported Cubs and Scouts in pursuing their own interest in the great outdoors.
