Oliver Willmott, Leanne Woodman, James Bromige and Catherine Flint successful in multi-million pound prosecution of grant fraud
Oliver Wilmott led by Shane Collery QC of Red Lion Chambers, has been successful in the prosecution of an unusual and highly complex case of grant fraud against the Welsh Assembly Government. The funds were secured in a bid to develop a revolutionary fish feed made from farmed ragworm, but costs were grossly overstated or invented and in consequence public funds were lost.
The consequent investigation ran from 2011 to 2019 instructions coming to Oliver in late 2016. Since then Oliver has contributed hundreds of hours to the matters seeing this case from magistrates’ court to Crown Court. The case finally concluded with sentence in May 2019.
Leanne Woodman undertook the enormous role of disclosure junior with assistance from Catherine Flint and James Bromige. Instructed to analyse each piece of unused material, between the three of them they considered tens of thousands of documents for disclosure, which ensured the case’s successful conclusion. James Bromige also provided vital input during the trial preparation phase.
