Elliot Gribble
Pupil
Elliot Gribble joined Queen Square Chambers commencing pupillage in 2025. He was first supervised by David Maunder and saw a wide range of criminal matters from initial conference through to trial in this period. Latterly Elliot was under the supervision of Mark Williams and enjoyed engaging with Employment Law and a variety of claims at an advisory stage, Mediation and Final Hearing.
Prior to pupillage, Elliot worked for an established Criminal Defence solicitor’s firm in Manchester. As an advocate at the firm, he regularly appeared in the Crown Court, often working alongside and against more experienced Counsel. Elliot also represented serving prisoners at adjudication hearings in front of District Judges and was granted rights of audience to appear in the Magistrates court on several occasions. This was a superb grounding for Counsel in becoming comfortable in a Court room setting and dealing with a range of Clients in challenging situations.
Elliot has a keen interest in youth justice and advocating on behalf of vulnerable clients. His time in Manchester saw him preparing cases for the youth court and he has extensive experience in working with clients with serious learning needs and mental health issues. He was a member of the YJLC in Manchester and regularly attended their training to improve his skills in youth justice.
Counsel’s skill with vulnerable witnesses also stems from his 10 years spent working in education as a teacher of music and speech and language specialist. His roles have included working with children with serious learning needs, acting as an intermediary for autistic children in child protection matters, and delivering differentiated relationship and sex education in high schools. Elliot’s skills and knowledge of SEN, EHCP procedure and duties of schools have allowed him to act as a local authority governor overseeing these areas and he welcomes instructions in Education Law where he can combine these skills with his focussed advocacy in an area he feels passionately about.
In Employment Law Counsel is able to assist with early advisory work understanding fully how important and early assessment is to progressing the Claim in it’s strongest form. Elliot is adept at representing Claimants or Respondents at hearing, embracing the combination of factual information and legal nuance that is the hallmark of Employment Law. His time with Mark Williams helped to hone Counsel’s witness handling skills and adapt his advocacy for the Tribunal.
When not at work Elliot enjoys playing a variety of stringed instruments including Cello and Flamenco Guitar. He has a Diploma from the Royal School of Music.
